American was made by Fostoria Glass Company from 1915-1986. After 1986 this pattern was made by Lancaster Colony and Dalzell-Viking. Colors made at various times include crystal, amber, blue, green, yellow, pink, purple, white, and red. There is another pattern being made recently by Indiana Glass called Whitehall that is similar to American, but of lesser quality. All American pieces are finely made, well polished, clear and bright.

Easy to recognize, well-made, and heavy, each piece has alternating stacked rows of clear protruding diamonds, with the insides of the glass being smooth.
